The Death card is one of the most feared and most tragically misunderstood card of the Tarot. Many times the image of the card is one that strikes fear into those unfamiliar with the Tarot. This card is nothing to fear, though. Death is a very natural part of life. In the Tarot it does not represent death in the physical sense. It’s only in horror movies that the Death Tarot card predicts the death of someone.
When Death shows up in a reading it represents a change or a new season, which is in and of itself a change! What do I mean by a new season? I mean leaving one period of life and entering another. Death could appear when you are pregnant. It can appear when you are changing jobs. Death is simply an end of one phase of life and a beginning of another. Many times when we see Death it can be uncomfortable. This honestly makes sense. Change is never comfortable. Even those of us who claim to like change, when it comes right down to it, we resist it to some level. Human beings are creatures of habit. We tend to love what we know, and as much as we may long for things we don’t know, the reality of a definite change can bring anxiety.
Death is definite. When the change it signifies comes, the old phase is over. There is no going back, there is only forward. Forward is the direction we should desire to move in, though. As uncomfortable as it can be at times, forward is the only direction that will take us to our destination!
The Universe seems to be sending a concentrated message right now, to me at least. Yesterday was The Tower and now today comes Death. This is an exciting time! Change is coming. One of the few constants in life is change. Embrace it. Don’t resist it. Let the new phase be the start of something new and beautiful.
