The Sun CatsThe Sun. This is one of the most positive and happy cards of the Tarot. In nearly every deck the Sun card exudes positive warmth and happiness. This card from the Mystical Cats Tarot is certainly no exception! Many times I’ve seen the Sun described as the ultimate yes card or simply as a positive omen. While I don’t argue with these ideas I definitely feel like they sell the true depth of the Sun very short.

The Sun brings us a message of hope, health, happiness, and inspiration. Just as the Moon brings a message of fear and illusion, the Sun brings the opposite: illumination and enlightenment. When the Sun shines on something it is seen for what it is. All illusion is laid bare. When the truth is seen it is able to be dealt with in an honest matter.

Typically I find that when the Sun rises on a reading it is an indication of a time of inspiration and joy. There are times in life when it just feels like everything clicks. This certainly doesn’t mean that everything is easy, but it’s a time when everything starts to make sense. Perhaps you’ve been through a rough time and have been having a difficult time making sense of life and everything going on and suddenly it all just clicks. You understand where you are, what you need to do, and how to do it. This is the Sun. Notice in this image you see the cats lying around basking in the light of the Sun. This also indicates another aspect of the Sun: comfort. Not physical comfort, but spiritual comfort that lets you know that all is well, and all will be well for the foreseeable future. You see, a cat only rests in this manner when all is taken care of. If there is danger lurking, if there is something to be done, if there is anything in any way awry, a cat will not be found lounging as depicted in the card.

While meditating on this card today have hope. While things may seem grim or difficult, the Sun is an invitation to see the brighter side of life. Many times the Sun comes at times when it doesn’t make sense. It allows us to survey the damage that may have been done, but it also brings us hope that things can and will be better. It shows us the work that needs done and allows us to rest. The Sun also asks us to have the innocence of a child, which is why it is usually depicted with a child, and simply trust that things will work out the way they need to.
