Steampunk HermitThe Hermit from The Steampunk Tarot comes our way today. The Hermit is one of the few cards that really looks pretty similar in nearly every Tarot deck you come across. There are definitely variations, but it seems to have nowhere near as many as most of the other arcana. I think this is because the message of the Hermit is, by and large, a fairly simple yet powerful one.

In the card for today we see a wizened old man standing atop a pile of gears and discarded machine parts. In the past we see what looks like London through the fog. The Hermit holds high a lantern to see through the darkness, and that right there is the full point of this card and its message today, as I see it.

You see, there are times in life when we need to step back from others. I don’t mean to hide yourself from the world or close yourself off. No, rather I mean that there are times we need to shut out the din and look inward to find truth. We live in a world where there is no shortage of opinions or thoughts about who we should be, what we should do, what we should believe, how we should act, what a proper career is or isn’t. If you don’t believe me just open up Facebook or any other social media and you’ll find yourself inundated with opinions of others any time you dare to speak your truth. It’s simply a reality of the world. While there’s nothing wrong with the opinions and thoughts of others and sometimes it can be very valuable feedback, there are times when we simply need to step away from it all. At those times we come into ourselves and seek truth within.

The message of this card is that right now in life, if you are finding yourself lost with no clear direction or sense of what to do or think, it’s the time to retreat from the noise. If you have to completely shut yourself out of social media or away from a group of friends or something else like that, do it. Take time in meditation. Do some journaling. Whatever it is you do, do it with the company of only yourself and the Universe. Seek YOUR truth without looking for the validation or opinion of others. It’s only once you’ve found your truth and truly owned it that you will begin to see how life makes sense and how you can reach your truest potential. The reason I said above that the Hermit’s lantern is the point of it all is this: that lantern is your truth. Once you find it, hold it high and let it shine for all to see. Don’t worry about how others will perceive it. Let it light your path and follow where it leads.

The Tarot is a powerful tool to help find your truth. It won’t give all the answers, but can help point you in the right direction. Let me help you with a reading today.
